Who We Are

The CTBN is a member-supported organization of childbirth professionals, healthcare providers, and other businesses that serve expecting mothers and families. Our goal is to connect families with providers for the childbearing year in the Austin and surrounding Central Texas communities. We offer a provider directory to assist families who are searching for quality care, services and products and an event calendar of community events.

Had A Baby In The Last Three Years?

It has been easier to get consumer satisfaction information about a camera than about maternity care services – but no longer. The Coalition for Improving Maternity Services (CIMS) has developed www.TheBirthSurvey.com a consumer feedback website where women provide information about the maternity care they received - with specific doctors, midwives, hospitals, and birth centers. Families choosing where and with whom to birth can utilize this consumer feedback, along with data on hospital and birth center intervention rates and practices, to make informed health care choices.

If you have given birth in the last three years, CIMS would like to know about your birth experience. According to CIMS, "The survey asks mothers a variety of questions about their satisfaction with their maternity care providers and birth setting, and includes their feedback in the results, allowing other women to benefit from their experiences. In addition to the consumer data, the website will begin to list obstetrical intervention data for each hospital as provided by state Departments of Health. The Birth Survey is designed to help women find quality providers and birth settings that are the best match for their needs and lifestyles. Providers and facilities will also be able to utilize The Birth Survey as a consumer feedback and quality improvement tool."

Help us spread the word about the survey,so that women in Central Texas can be informed about their choices in birth. Here is a flyer that you can print and distribute. Share this with all the mothers you know.

Community Partners

Texans for Midwifery Austin - TFM-Austin is a consumer-based group working to inform families, the medical community and decisionmakers about midwives and midwifery care. We promote The Midwives Model of Care as a valuable birth option that should be available wherever women choose to birth, both inside and outside the hospital.

Central Texas Doula Association - CTDA aims to raise community awareness about the role of doulas, provide a listing of local doulas, maintain high standards within our profession and support doulas by providing continuing education and a peer network.

The Central Texas Birth Network’s mission is to provide our community with resources to encourage positive pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum experiences through education, empowerment, and advocacy.

Birth Wisdom

I think one of the best things we could do would be to help women/parents/families discover their own birth power, from within themselves. And to let them know it's always been there, they just needed to tap into it.
