Birth Doula Services If a doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it. ~John Kennell, MD Birth doulas provide support to expecting moms and partners during pregnancy, labor, birth, and the early postpartum period. Birth doulas understand the process of labor and birth and the risks and benefits of routine medical interventions. They know non-pharmocological methods of pain relief and utilize these and other tools to provide emotional and physical support to clients during labor and birth. Services typically include one or two prenatal visits during the third trimester, continuous emotional and physical support during labor, help to establish breastfeeding within the first hour after birth, and a postpartum visit. Birth doulas do not offer medical advice or care. They typically charge a flat fee for their services. Clicking on a provider's name will take you to her website.
